Where to begin in describing the life and times of this century's greatest adventurer, adventurer in the mind, culture, arts and organizations of this great human vessel?

As always the best place is the beginning...

1. A Strong Start

Lana Diane was born on December 24th, 1911 to Costakis Dianos and Tilly Lloyd-Evans. Loving parents both, Costakis had been a circus strong man and as a child Lana loved to be watch her father pick up heavy weights in his strong arms. Her mother was a seamstress to the great Hollywood costumiers Grayson and Howard. Cretan-born Costakis had moved to America like so many immigrants at the time, leaving the oppressive mood of his once great homeland for the promised land. The family name soon changed to Diane and the young Lana was barely out of diapers before writing her first poetry and a short story about the movement of the moon.

On completing high school with honours Lana had decided to try acting inspired by the greats... Gable, Dietrich, and Lamarr. Fascinated by all things Hollywood, (a favour later returned to her by countless stars today!) she soon graduated from cameos in small films such as 'Cold Dry Decks in the Moonlight', and 'Raise the Florida Flag' to writing screenplays, one of the few women to do so in the period. Success followed success but in 1935, aged only 24 the precocious talents of this young woman were to take a radically different turn...

2. Part-time Particles?

At this time Lana fell in with three young physicists, then working as consultants on her screenplay for a female Flash Gordon. As the depth of her knowledge of particle physics grew Lana realised that Hollywood's arms were not strong enough to hold her. Enrolling in the University of Western California's graduate program in Astrophysics was a cinch - she scored off the scale on both the general knowledge and deep math grades!

Discovery followed discovery. In the three years she was there Lana made many great gains for humanity's knowledge. Sonic theory, particle accelerator weapons (1) that we now take for granted, all these she was part of. Submarine control systems benefitted. Hidden among deep waters, often unable to surface for many weeks at a time her work, her life's direction indeed took a new and final direction.

3. Lana Diane Technology - New Beginnings

It was the mid sixties, islands of innocence in the world - places of experimentation and quest. And now, for the first time, in Lana's own words...

"One night at a slumber party, myself and a few other friends realised that the game Truth or Dare could be enlivened by a shot of Sodium Pentathol, or the truth serum as it is more commonly known... 55cc's injected into the cerebal artery. Well we called up a friend of ours, a graduate in Chemistry and Pharmacology at Yale, who agreed that that, yes, it was a pretty terrific idea."

"He duly arrived with the equipment borrowed from the lab and set about dosing us with TRUTH. Needless to say the forfeits were quite hefty because the risk was so much greater to the dark secrecy of our indulgentness."

"However when it came to my turn it was decided that I should have the remainder of the phial as there wasn't enough for another two doses. So, what the hey? I thought, it was all being carried out in the spirit of adventure and transgression of our eartly conduit selves, and agreed."

"Well, as many Orbiters can attest, my life and my life's meaning was never to be the same again. It turns out I was shot full of TRUTH, absolutely. TRUTH coursed through my veins and crackled in my brainpan like a platter of sizling fish, the shivery spangly light of TRUTH - a door opening up and revealing to me not only my own selfish TRUTH but the universal TRUTH of innocence, of a world before the corruption of word forms. As I talked this TRUTH to my friends they gathered round me and held me down to stop me shaking, all the time recognising this palsy for what it was, a long dormant but divine TRUTH awoken in the brainhead of their dearest friend."

"My colleagues of that night are elders of DianeTech and still speak of that night with reverence and awe, that night, the night of TRUTH. They had achieved a knowingness which was a paradigm. A paradigm that I felt, and still do feel, coursing down my beautiful strong arms."
